Discovering Birmingham - A Walk and More - Positively Birmingham Tour No. 3

Understand how Birmingham developed and see that many of today’s ways of working have deep roots in our past. In particular we explore:

  • Earlier times – medieval origins
  • From Georgian entrepreneurs to Victorian idealists
  • Jewellery Quarter
  • Canal city
  • An artistic side
  • Today's city developing for the future.

Content is loosely based on the new tourist guide Discovering Birmingham. A copy of the guide is included in the ticket price (guide normally £5). Tours use an audio system and this ticket includes a FREE pair of better quality earphones.

This 1 3/4 hour walking tour gives a great introduction to the city and will be of interest equally to local people and visitors alike.

Tours start/finish: Library of Birmingham front entrance

Discovering Birmingham Tour No. 3
On our tour we will experience and visit the following:

  • Centenary Square
  • Canals including those not normally on the tourist routes in the city centre
  • Jewellery Quarter
  • St Paul's Square
  • Church Street Square
  • St Philip's Square and Cathedral grounds
  • Victoria Square
  • Chamberlain Square
We will look at the origins of the city, the coming of the canals and the huge impact it made both in Georgian and Victorian town and the way it still impacts today. We discover the post-war redevelopment and how that has been so detrimental to taking the city forward and see how it is being addressed. We look at new developments and understand where the city is heading into the future.
We meet at the front of the Library of Birmingham in Centenary Square. This is close to major hotels and the International Convention Centre and easy to get to by public transport and on foot from the city centre.
The tour price includes the loan of an audio receiver so you can hear the guide commentary clearly without having to be up close. The Tripadvisor ticket includes a pair of better quality earphones that you keep. At the end of the tour you are given the guide Discovering Birmingham (normally retails at £5) which has loads more ideas for things to see and do in the city.
